The Ecuadorian rainforest – the Amazon area an indescribable place, you will need to see it to believe it. It has an infinite diversity of flora and fauna. It is the habitat of 800 bird species, over a thousand butterfly species, reptiles, insects and mammals, one of them aquatic the pick river dolphin. Piranhas swim in the rivers and jaguars hunt in the den forests. Within the amazing canopy and majestic trees live Indian communities and shamans, who will show you their culture and invite you to share their way of life. Included here Shuar, Cofan, Secoya and the well known Huaorani tribes, they are the keepers of the rainforest.
The Amazon or “Oriente” can be reached by plain in just 45 minutes or if you like a scenic trip by bus or car in about 7 hours, passing The Andes and traveling down to the Amazonian basin. To reach most lodges a trip by canoe is necessary leaving from ports like Coca, Tena and Misahualli. The adventure starts early morning leaving Quito arriving later afternoon to welcoming lodges waiting for you with ice cold drinks.
